Two vast plains framed the northern desert, forming a natural gradient between the lush equatorial jungle and the seemingly lifeless desert. While the northern plain was nothing but a flat grassland or varying aridity, the southern one was only referred to as a plain due to the lack of forests. But it was far from being flat. Hills and small mountain ranges created by geological folds across the landscape reached well within the desert. Rivers followed the stretches of stone and nurtured the grassland, yet most dried up before they could do the same for the desert.
